WHAt we do

Engage with the community

An important part of our work is constantly engaging with, educating, and involving our HCHS community. To do this we host zoom teach-ins, continually ask for feedback and questions, provide opportunities for our members to volunteer to help, and host other events such as protests and discussions. Discussions are important to understand what all the different constituencies in our community want.

Social Media

We use Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook to spread awareness, educate, and engage with our community. We try to consistently update the community about our progress as transparency is one of our core values. You can scroll to the bottom of our site to find all of our social media. On every platform our handle is @hchs4diversity. We will answer your DMs! You can also contact us through our email: hchs4diversity@gmail.com

Meet with the administration

We have met with the HCHS and Hunter administrations to communicate our concerns with the current admissions process and understand our administration’s interests and create steps to move forward. We have also met with administration to discuss internal school issues of climate and curriculum.

Work with elected officials

We contact and work with elected officials (councilmembers, assemblymembers, state senators, etc.) to pressure Hunter administrators. This has resulted in a letter signed by 37 elected officials and a letter written and signed by Public Advocate Jumaane Williams urging the Hunter administration to suspend the 2021 test and create equitable solutions for this year and the future. We have also testified at a hearing held by the City Council Committee on Higher Education on CUNY's early college high schools. Involvement of elected officials is important because 95% of the HCCS budget comes from the city council.

Work with integration experts

While we advocate for change, we are not experts. We have met with integration and education experts and have connected them with our administration so that we can make changes in an educated way that fits our school’s specific needs and circumstances.
